Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill Shell Cordovan Boots 8.5 D 8.5D Burgundy Color No 8 This is a fantastic pair of Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill boots in burgundy color no. 8 shell cordovan leather with JR Rendenbach soles. These boots feature a 360º storm welt, a CustomCork insole with top of the line double oak Rendenbach soles These are built on the 1757 last. The shell cordovan is fully leather-lined, befitting high quality boots that can handle the elements. These boots are curently selling for $950 on Allen Edmonds website and in retail stores. Shell cordovan is so strong and durable that it used to be used for making strops, the things barbers used to sharpen their razor blades. Shell cordovan is membrane pulled from a horse’s hindquarters and is extremely smooth in appearance, making for high quality footwear that looks great even when mistreated; it is the higher quality version of “horserump” that is occasionally used for making boots. I’ve always thought Higgins Mill boots were the best combination of attractiveness and toughness of Allen Edmonds boots (my other favorite is the Dalton) and these can be dressed up or down, with khakis or jeans. I find Allen Edmonds shoes and boots to run true to size, though these are a tad wider than normal. For reference, I believe these should fit for someone who wears size 8D in Red Wing heritage boots (Moc toes and Iron Rangers) and 8.5D in Wolverine 1000 Mile. Personally, I have several pairs of socks in a variety of different thicknesses and switch them out to help me fit a little bit better in boots that are slightly too snug or slightly too loose. I have tried to photograph these from all reasonable perspectives. The soles show a little wear but not much; otherwise, these boots appear to have been mostly babied. Because these are pre-owned you should closely examine each of the photos in case I missed something. These have been stored in a smoke-free home.
