It remained in being until the end of 1947, absorbing a few other Companies, within its geographical area, in the 1923 grouping. Plain destination labels, issued from the mid 1880’s,can vary in size but average 63mm x 63mm and earlier labels, showing station of origin, are a little larger. 2 printers marked their destination labels – Waterlow & Sons (W.& S.Ltd.) & Press Printers (P.P. Ltd.) Pre-grouping railway labels from England, Wales & Scotland date from before January 1923, when the GWR became larger and the LMS, LNER & SR were formed from an amalgamation of Companies in their area of operation. In turn these Companies were nationalised on 1st January 1948 to form British Railways.
