Antique, Art Nouveau sterling silver teaspoon. Figural and floral theme Reine Des Fleurs or Queen of the Flowers pattern. Made by Unger Bros (1872-1910) Newark New Jersey, early 20th c. Measures: 5 7/8 inches long; weighs 30.1 grams. Exceptional Art Nouveau design combining a wavey-edged shape with raised, modelled fabulous Nouveau woman and beautifully detailed flowers. Elegant, elongated forms beginning at the joint of handle to bowl in the form of a Poppy in full bloom. Above this, in typical whiplash form, are stems and buds, overlapping and crossing each other leading to more flowers and waves that metamorphosize into the swirling skirts of a beautiful maiden with finely detailed long flowing hair. She is seen in profile, her body conforming to the shape of the spoon. One hand holds a huge Poppy flower beyond which is a whirling fluted border ending in a terminal of 3 beautifully modelled Poppies with fine detail. The small space alongside the maiden’s face is finely engraved with the name Emmie, presumably the original owner of the spoon, over 100 years ago. The back of the teaspoon with simple Art Nouveau borders. Marks: Unger Bros interlaced U & B as well as STERLING 925 FINE. Embossed lettering: COPYRIGHT 1904 Condition: delicate wear, commensurate with age.
