Item Description: Vitrified majolica plate entirely hand-painted with geometric decorations and small horses, in shades of light blue and blue, made by Vincenzo Pinto’s Vietri factory in the first decades of the 20th century, signed “V. Pinto Italia” on the back. Useful information for evaluating the object: The plate belongs to the first productions of the 20th century, before the artist founded ICAM. In fact, the plate is signed on the back as well as the signature with “ITALY”. This means that we are talking about a dish before 1920, when Italy began to be used, then replaced in 1940 by “Made in Italy”. To evaluate the object we have placed just below this description some photos with majolica by Vincenzo Pinto listed way back in 2006 and 2003 at rather high prices. Then we put a photo of a bowl much smaller than this dish, but with a similar decoration, offered on “Intondo” for €330. Information on the artist and/or manufacturer: Vincenzo Pinto (1870-1939), descendant of an ancient family of Vietri majolica makers, has been active in Vietri sul Mare since the end of the nineteenth century. After having created numerous and important ceramic panels for public and religious buildings at the beginning of the 1920s, assisted by his sons Giovanni and Raffaele, he began a vast artistic production. In the early 1930s he opened his laboratory to some members of the so-called “German Colony” of Vietri including Irene Kowaliska and Barbara Margarethe Thewalt.
