This sale is for an extremely rare Pan Am item, a vintage Pan Am Purser’s Rogers Bros. Silver Carving Set. Both pieces are marked with the PAA logo as well as markings from Rogers Bros. This is a true piece of Pan Am and aviation history. I am a member of the Pan Am Historical Foundation and also work with the Pan Am Museum co-located with the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Long Island. The purser’s carving set was used in the first class cabin in the 1960s by the purser to carve roasts in the aisle from the serving cart in front of the individual passenger. The set is in very good condition and slightly tarnished. We did not polish the item, preferring to let the buyer use a preferred silver polish and method to do so. The carving set was obtained directly from a now-retired Pan Am purser via eBay perhaps 15 or so years ago. She was married to a PAA Captain. You can see the set being used in a marketing image included in the photos here. It was also used in the television show “Pan Am” (and you can see Purser Maggie Ryan (portrayed by Christina Ricci) use the same set to fend off a tipsy passenger while in the air. Rogers Bros. is the manufacturer of the set. The company perfected its own electroplating process in 1847 and used 1847 to mark their products along with the company name. Rogers Bros. was formed by three brothers, Asa, Simeon, and William, and was based in Hartford, Connecticut. The company was known for its high-quality silver. It later became part of International Silver Company, or ISC, which was formed by a number of Connecticut silversmiths. ISC went out of business in 1981. Questions? Please ask!
