The first image shows a young leaf on this plant when younger. remaining images show plant habit and details on the plant offered for sale. This is a seed grown, male that I grew from seedling size that has coned on several occasions. I have a couple extra males in my collection that I have decided to part with; this is the larger of the two. 24″/60 cm tall overall. Caudex diameter ~3.5″. The plants has just decided to develop a second growth point as shown in the last image, so will have two leaf flushes next time ’round. The plant urgently needs a repot to a larger container or be planted into the ground in a suitable environment. It has been grown bright and on the dry side this past year so some brown-tipping of older leaves from mild light stress. Plant will be shipped partially bare rooted. Zamia purpurea is a beautiful southeast Mexican cycad, famous for its showy new leaf color, that is endemic to lowland rainforests in Veracruz and Oaxaca states. It is suitable to permanent pot culture if the container is matched to caudex size. The plant is still carrying most of its juvenile leaves. I would prune the canopy back severely following the next leaf flushes that should materialize fairly soon. Seedling Z. purpurea or readily available from Florida specialty growers but mature, coning sized specimens are rarely available for sale. Oversize plant that requires extra shipping due to weight and volume. If mailing charges are materially lower than those estimated, I will refund the difference. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
